Most of us are creatures of habit, and the more we are accustomed to something, the more it becomes a part of our unconscious programming. For example, your body adjusts to your height (and probably a few other things, too) naturally. The same is true with eating, drinking, and sex. We are all conditioned to be ready for those things, so that’s what we do.

Now that I’ve explained this, let me explain how it works for you. In the body of every person, there are two autonomic nerves that control our breathing. The left one is called the parasympathetic nervous system. When this system is activated, you breathe faster and the body releases the right side of the heart more rapidly. The right side of the heart is called the sympathetic nervous system.

The right side is the one that controls our breathing. When it’s on, you breathe faster. When it’s off, you breathe slower. So when you are relaxed, there is a balance, and you are in the happy zone where the heart doesn’t need to pump. When you are stressed, your sympathetic nervous system is activated, the heart tries to pump blood faster, and your breathing slows down.

The left side of the heart is called the parasympathetic nervous system. Your parasympathetic nervous system is the one that controls your blood pressure. When the parasympathetic nervous system is on, the blood pressure is low. When the parasympathetic nervous system is off, the blood pressure is high.

The left side of the heart is called the sympathetic nervous system. When the sympathetic nervous system is on, the heart pumps more blood into the body. When the sympathetic nervous system is off, the heart pumps less blood into the body.
