The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem with most of these autopilot actions is that once we’re on autopilot with them, we are no longer in control. We have to look at our actions, habits, patterns, and reactions, and decide which ones belong to us and which ones belong to ourselves. A healthy example of this is the “I just did that” action. If you are constantly doing something without thinking it through, you are probably doing it wrong.
What about when we’re just not doing anything at all? We’re just mindlessly walking, reading, texting, shopping, or just sitting on our phone. These actions are self-directed, and they often seem like they’re a waste of time. We’re not doing anything, so we don’t need to stop and think about it. We just know it’s a waste of time.
The truth is, that self-directed actions do seem to be a waste of time. The same is true of other things that seem like theyre a waste of time, like mindlessly walking around. These things seem to be a waste of time because we are mindlessly walking around. Or, we could just be mindlessly watching television.
It seems like watching TV is a waste of time because we are mindlessly watching television. We are mindlessly watching television because we are watching television. We are mindlessly watching television because we are watching television. We are mindlessly watching television because we are watching television. The same goes for being mindlessly walking around, and all the other things that seem like theyre a waste of time.
Well that’s what I thought. I mean, we’re mindlessly watching TV because we’re mindlessly walking around. We are mindlessly walking around because we are mindlessly watching television. We are mindlessly walking around because we are mindlessly watching television. We are mindlessly walking around because we are mindlessly watching television. We are mindlessly walking around because we are mindlessly watching television. We are mindlessly walking around because we are mindlessly watching television.
That’s about it for Valentine’s Day this year. I’m not going to ruin it by having to explain what these are, but the last few Valentines I’ve bought were for the same reason: the perfect, unisex flowers and chocolates that are usually passed off as the perfect, unisex gift. When you think about it, that’s exactly what they are: unisex.
The reason you buy a gift for someone is because you respect their choice. So when you buy for someone you think they are giving you their right to choose however you want to (i.e. buy me a gift because you believe I can choose any kind of gift I want), you’re buying them a gift because you’re making an informed choice.
We have to be careful not to assume that everyone has the same level of self-awareness. It’s hard to tell who or what isn’t aware of themselves because that would lead to the wrong generalizations and generalizations are bad. Self-awareness is the process of taking a look at yourself and deciding if you can be aware of how you are feeling.
I’m not sure why this is an issue, but it might be because self-awareness is a very personal thing that people don’t have to share with others. We all have our own self-awareness and we can choose to share it. Even if we don’t consciously share it, we can still share it with others if we feel it’s important to do so.
