A common question we get from new homeowners is “what is my budget?” It’s not uncommon to hear this from first-time homebuyers. So it’s also not uncommon for first-time homebuyers to tell us that they don’t know what their financial goals are, or they’re not sure what their overall goals in life are.
In my work as a real estate broker, I have clients whose families are moving in because they realize they need to get help for any financial concerns they might have. The majority of them are making a pretty big leap in their life, and I think it is fair to say that they have a lot of questions. So I asked them how many years they have lived in their current home.
I asked them to remember their last vacation of any length. They could probably remember their last vacation if they needed to.
I’m all for helping people move into a new home because I love my job, but the more I look at these people’s lives, the more I feel as if I’m doing them a favor.
I mean, I would hope that the more people that move into a new home the longer they’ll live there, but some people do seem to be living in homes that should have been torn apart years ago. It doesn’t seem like these people were given very very good advice when they moved in.
I have yet to see anyone be willing to provide much of a “yes” answer to this question. So I’m going to ask it anyway.
Well, it’s like I’ve said before, people have a tendency to go to extremes when they feel the need to change their lives. And yes, sometimes it’s for the best. But in my experience there are people who live a life of excess that are really terrible for others, and vice versa.
I don’t believe anybody has ever tried to create a home that was better than a home. It is possible to have a home that is more beautiful than a home; that is, a home that is in a league of its own. This is what I’ve been saying for years, but it’s really easy to get caught up in the frenzy of building a new home and forget that it is a journey and not a destination.
I have been saying this for years myself. I am a huge fan of homes with incredible design elements. Homes that are gorgeous, cozy, and filled with all sorts of amazing and amazing things. I am a fan of homes that make my heart sing. I am a fan of homes that make me feel warm and cozy in my soul. I am a fan of homes that make me want to go home and stay there for a very long time.
