My sister is obviously a good person. She’s also a good mother. But when you are a parent, you have to deal with your own shit. While there are times when you do have to do something for the sake of the child, its also important to take care of yourself.

As you probably know, I have a great deal of sympathy for a lot of people in the nursing community. That said, I have to wonder if a nurse would be the right choice for a lot of women who are already breastfeeding. They might be capable of giving their baby some milk, but most of them aren’t the right type of person to be the sole provider for an infant. At least let your sister know that you will be available to help whenever she needs you.

I understand the issue with not letting your baby nurse. But I also believe that a lot of people who breastfeed do it to avoid having to deal with breastfeeding complications. At a minimum, if something does start to happen to your baby, you can always call the nursing hotline and ask them to come get your baby. Of course, this is not always the case, but if your baby is having an issue with latch, you can definitely call.
